Act 1 reflection

1. Character foils: A foil is a character who highlights, through contrast (differences), the qualities of another character. Identify two characters in Act 1 who are foils for each other. What do you learn about the characters by seeing them in contrast to one another?
                Tybalt
  • Hot headed 
  • Arrogant
  • Rude
  • Not friendly
  • Likes to fight
  • Hates the Montagues 

           Benvolio
  • A gentleman 
  • Wants to be nice to everybody
  • Doesn't like to fight
  • A little loud
           Nurse 
  • Has a more loving relationship with Juliet
  • She is a trusted family servant to the Capulets
  • She's loud
  • Nurse is very open with her opinions, advice, and feelings with Juliet.
         Lady Capulet
  • Not close to Juliet
  • Has a trouble relationship with her daughter 
  • She is strained and distant from her family
2. Both Romeo and Juliet forshawdow in the Act - what do they forshadow? Make a prediction of what you believe might happen. Juliet's foreshadowing is located on pg. 966, Romeo's on 963.
  • In my opinion, I think Romeo and Juliet are going to have a relationship and their families are going to be aganist it and they will try to stop them. I think Juliet's family will prefer her marrying Paris because he's not their enemy and he was the first to ask her hand in marriage.
Extra Credit Question: Works with tremendous critical acclaim can sometimes fail to live up to our expectations. Is Romeo and Juliet living up to your expectations? Explain.
Romeo and Juliet are living up to my expectation because when I read the story. I feel connected too it and understands it well.
